About the Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program:
The Master Gardener training program involves attending classes, for approximately 10 weeks, one morning per week, from approximately 9am to 1pm. Classes are taught, one a year, by Extension staff, local experts, and Extension Master Gardener volunteers. Topics include: annuals; perennials; fruits; vegetables; lawns; shrubs; trees; insects; diseases; weeds; soils; plant nutrition; and water conservation. A training manual is included in the tuition fee. There are only 35 openings per session. Trainees must complete the classroom instruction, pass the exam and have hands-on training by the end of the training period.
Once you have successfully completed the training program:
Students become Master Gardener Interns and will begin to fulfill the first year 40 hours of volunteer service required for certification.
